Open Directory Project

Not surprisingly, a directory! Supplies 'description' to Google results and was worth about 1 point in Google Page Rank. ODP was well respected but now seems not to be so important. This directory is completely compiled by humans; an unfortunate result of this is the likelihood that your submission may not be looked at for many months. Even if your site is accepted, the carefully crafted description is often re-written by an editor who "knows" your business better than you.

Verdict: still worth submitting to, but don't hold your breath.
